What is anti-dermatitis lotion?

It is a prevention lotion and care of Equine Summer Seasonal Recurrent Dermatitis (also named sweet itch). It fights against the effects of the dermatitis and ensures an efficient protection against the insects responsible for the infection.

Our research enabled us to select the most active extracts from plants and fruits. The combination of these ingredients makes the anti-dermatitis lotion effective and shows rapid, visible and stable results.

When should the Equicure anti-dermatitis lotion be used?

The anti- dermatitis lotion should be used:

  • On horses which already show signs of recurrent summer dermatitis.

  • At the start of the season, on horses that do not show any signs of dermatitis but have had attacks in previous years

What are the properties of the anti-dermatitis lotion?

What is the Equine Recurring Summer Dermatitis ?

The Equine Summer Seasonal Recurrent Dermatitis also called sweet itch, is a cutaneous infection due to an allergy caused by insect stings, midges named culicoïd.

Sweet Itch The saliva of the latter triggers strong itching that makes horses scratch themselves intensely against any support.

First signs of recurring summer dermatitis are :

  • Coat and hair damaged
  • Skin thickening
  • Wounds due to scratching

The Equine Summer Seasonal Recurrent Dermatitis is chronic and comes back every year starting with warm weather and the reappearance of the insects responsible for the infection.

Culicoïde

Common name : Midges (3-4 mm length)

Scientific name : Culicoïde

Familly : Cératopogonidae


The female culicoïdes are hematophagous insects, which means that they feed on blood of the animals they sting, specially mammals and birds

Their stings are painful and very pruriginous (it induce itchings). It cause persistent papules and are responsible for allergies in horses. This allergies are at the origin of Sweet Itch.

The aggressiveness of Culicoïdes is generally at twilight but certain species also sting during the day. They are actives between +15°C and +35°C. They are thus particularly active during summer, specially between the end of April and September/October.

What are the advantages of the anti-dermatitis lotion?

How should the anti-dermatitis lotion be used?
  • Prevention: apply Equicure anti-dermatitis lotion on the critical zones (neck, flank and croup) from the beginning of warm weather. A daily application during the season.

  • Care: apply Equicure anti-dermatitis lotion daily on and around the affected zones until satisfied. Two daily applications are recommended during insects attack peaks (morning and evening)..

For best effect, it is recommended to apply Equicure C to encourage hair and coat growth and help towards healing wounds..
